Madura
is an island in East Java commonly called the Salt Island. Geographically
divided into 4 districts namely: Bangkalan, Pamekasan, Sumenep, and Sampang. In
the base itself, there are many superior food products. One of them is siwil.
Siwil is food with tapioca flour and shrimp, which is then combined
with flavors: salt, onion, garlic, and chili. This culinary has become a
favorite food of the community because it is known for its savory, crunchy, and
crispy tastes, making this familiar dish called siwil much sought after
by people including those from outside the region. Siwil, a native
culinary of Socah District, Bangkalan.
It
is true, at first glance the shape of siwil is similar to cireng,
which is a typical food originating from West Java. But in reality, siwil
and cireng are very different. When viewed from the main ingredients
tapioca flour which is combined with other flavors and has a savory and crispy
taste which makes the region
more delicious to enjoy. also there is spice to suitable to be eaten with siwil, it is petis.
Famous for its savory, chewy and crispy taste, this snack is highly sought after, and even many people are willing to stand in line just to buy siwil. This
one is actually from Socah. It occurred to local residents to try to make snacks made from
shrimp as well. From there, the food that is familiarly called siwil and popular in Bangkalan.
For
the price, don't worry, the hawker is very friendly, only price at Rp 20,000
per mica, and usually, buyers buy directly with large quantities to eat with
friends or become souvenirs for the family. Affordable prices will not make
empty bags and even a hungry stomach is successfully made full.
"Usually,
immediately buy a lot at the crowded, it tastes right on the tongue, the
chewiness makes you feel at ease, the price is also cheap, very fit in the
pockets of students, and suitable to become souvenirs" said Naimah, a central Java student at Trunojoyo
University in Madura.
The
existence siwil has been around
since past times, even though this siwil is no less in existence with other modern
foods. This can be seen by the ease with which regional traders are in various
regions other than Socah. The varied fans are not only the surrounding community but also come from newcomers who are at the base. The distinctive taste of siwil
Socah and affordable price are the main attraction.
